Hi

I was asked this question today but in early stages of studying I was not able to understand or answer the question. Can someone please answer the question and explain the answer.

If you link 2 x 6v batteries + to - then the voltage will double, i.e 12v

If you link 2 x 6v batteries + to + and - to - and test between any + and -, the voltage remains the same ( 6v) but the amp hours will double

I haven't done anything like this for years, but I'll give it a go.

Batteries connected in parallel = same voltage & combined current.
Batteries connected in series = combined voltage & same current.

So A would be in series.
Batt 1 + to Batt 2 -. Batt 1 - to Batt 2 +. Batt 2 + to Batt 3 -. Batt 2 - to Batt 3 +, and so on.

B would be in parallel.
All + connected together, all - connected together.

C would be a mixture of the two (the arrangement I'm not entirely sure about).
Batt 1 + to Batt 2 +. Batt 1 - to Batt 2 -.
Batt 2 + to Batt 3 -. Batt 2 - to Batt 3 +.
Batt 3 + to Batt 4 +. Batt 3 - to Batt 4 -.

A battery or accumalator is called that, because its an accumaltion of cells

Your average car battery has 6 x 2.2 volt cells connected one to the next to the next and so on to give you your typical 12 volt battey

A battery is rated by how many amps(current) it can supply at its given voltage for how many hours

If your battery is linked up to another,the capacity is doubled,so a typical 51 ampere hour battery now becomes 102 ampere hours

The voltages of that link up can be kept the same by linking them in parallell or
The voltages can be increased by connecting them in series with each other (one to the next to the next and so on) but the capacaties remain the same

linking in series and parallell as explained by others
