Discuss Question regarding study of 17th electrical regulations in the Electrician Courses : Electrical Quals area at ElectriciansForums.net

Try to get familliar with the topics that are in each section and what those sections and chapters mean rather than trying to read it like a novel
Better to spend time getting to know the book, rather than whats in it at first,it will be worthwhile doing so in the end
The detail can be referenced rather than learned

When I studied for the 16th & 17th edition I labeled the edges of the 7671 with those stick on coloured label things so you can quickly pick out the parts that you want ie: definitions, correction factors, BS standards, fuse time current etc etc.
That way you do not need to keep going to the index every time you need info.
cheers Chris.

Same as above, all good advise. Be careful about marking the book, use post it note type that can be taken off for the exam. Your not allowed to mark the book for quick reference (but depends on the person overlooking the exam). Something that I did was to look at a small circuit eg single light fitting under the stairs. How many ref codes apply to a 2m t+e a switch and a ceiling rose? You'll be surprised. Good luck and if/when you need help post on here and ill be happy to look up anything that your not sure about.

Hi dinmont126,

I used to teach the 17th full and update course at my local college. I would suggest as above that buying the book is a great start as the exam is based on this. You can get hold of past papers to practice on which are multiple choice and the courses from colleges really teache you to obtain the information quickly to answer the questions.
I don't believe that you will know every regulation after the course at a college but it does help you study with others and from the courses I took this was of great benefit to students.
There are sellers of the exam such as Electa course(?) which you can access on line. You can use Ebay and I know a lot of people who have bought papers etc from it. My advice is for you to contact your local college and see if they can help. Yes it will cost but you have to decide how to play it. In any case you will need to register and do the exam.
Best wishes,

Rex

i had the regs and the simulator software when i took mine. it`s a great way of not just learning the answers but also finding your way around the regs as you answer each question in turn. slowly but surely you will not have to look up each cat you are wanting but you will end up just going straight to it.
