What would you like to have in this Trainee section?

This is your special section of the forum and a lot of us have had to fight for it to be set up, it has now dawned on me that we have not asked you guys what you want from us? What topics would help you learn about our brilliant industry? Do you want to have loads of downloads so you can read? If so what area of your education would you like? We are all at different levels and we all need different things, so what do you need help with?

What I would like to see is more questions from the trainee's. Things that pop up in the classroom or on site that your not 100% sure about, please ask them in here. This is a safe haven for you guys and no-one will have a go at you for posting up a daft question, anyway there's no such thing as a daft or silly question, only a daft person that is scared to ask.

So come on, give us you feed back, your questions and your input to make this section a valuable resource for everyone that is trying to learn our wonderful trade. As the saying goes, you only get out what you put in.

I can never get enough explanatory downloads to read. I'm alright on the complex stuff but can struggle and forget the basic stuff, have loads of idiot guides saved on my desktop.
One thing that helped me in testing was watching youtube videos - what can take thousands of words to convey, you see in a 3 minute video and think Ohhhh THAT"S all that was about. Any links/recommendations to that sort of thing would be helpful. Or as I imagine there's plenty stuff out there that you pay for, recommendations for that - don't have enough money to take any risks buying anything unhelpful.

I do appreciate it when people answer without making me feel like an idiot. As I used to tell tutors in college, no I don't understand this yet BUT I KNOW LOADS OF STUFF YOU NEVER WILL!

I think for me, the chance to ask what seems like daft questions with no judgements. Part of the problem with college if you're not in relevant employment is you don't have any experience outside of the classroom. To give an example a friend of mine is now in his 2nd year of his level 3 plumbing (college only works as a delivery driver), yet I had to show him how to change tap valves as they hadn't covered it in his course. I have a fear of ending up in the same situation as him, 'educated' but clueless.

Thank you both for your input. Do not think for one second that any question that you post up in the trainee section will be looked down upon. A very selective group of members has been chosen for certain reasons, one of those reasons is our friendliness and understanding and no other normal member can see what you post up in here, only us lot so get asking those questions.

In all seriousness thanks for the thread paul !! He is absolutely right!, no one will be scalded, management have chosen the mentors for their level of knowledge, and friendly attitude, so ask away!. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask!!!! (as it normaly ends up resulting in a claim on the insurance) lol

You could start a new thread for useful Youtube links and start the ball rolling with the ones you found to be good. I'm sure others will add their favorites and any new ones as and when they find them. It's the kind of thread that will probably end up as a sticky once there's a few replies.
