Im here to sort out a problem for me old man. His recenetly brought a new tumble dryer, now he has to cut the plug off and wire it straight in the wall as he dont need the plug. Red goes to brown and blue goes to black correct? Now it doesnt work like this, says the neutral is live. Which is wrong ? The machine dont work. Now when the plug is on the machine works. Why is this? Anyone help me. His asking me as ive just started my course but unfortunetly im too early on to help him. Much appreciated for help. Thanks in advance.

Your kidding right

He has a socket thing on the wall which dont allow you to plug 3pin plugs straight into.

You mean a fused spur,
if he's wired brown to red & blue to black you shouldn't have a problem,
is the neutral live at the fused spur without connectiong the tumble dryer ?
& is the fused spure wired correctly ?

IE: load to load & supply to supply on the live & neutral side ?

It looks like this

And yeah, its wired correctly. Its a new house and his not changed it, so we are guessing its correct.

He said the neutral is not live at the fused spur. Only when he connects it to the tumble dryer

Looks like an old system to me, is the fused spur near the floor behind the tubmle dryer ?

They look like DP switches and are labelled
If the machine works with a plug on it then you must have tried it in a socket outlet first
If you now say that the neutral is live and the machine no longer works,it seems to me that the neutral is disconnected either in the fused connection unit or at the double pole isolator
If so when the machine is connected and switched on you will get live on the neutral wire with an open circuit

Have you tested at the outlet for supply at the load side ?
