Questions about PAT testing

hi everyone,
i have the following question:
what do you have to do if an equipment is not suitable for a certain environment?
do u have to report it to the health n safety executive?
or is it enough if it is being recorded and just tell it to the responsible person?
or i might be totally wrong about these two options

Hi There

I would tend to Fail It, the record sheets we use have a columm for evironment, if it could cause injury through electric shock or a fire then i would remove plug and inform the responsible person for the client you are working for, most pat testing we do is for companies and most have a health and safety officer. If you ignore it and dont record it who could be held resonsible for any problems that may arise the HSE site has guidance notes on this. So i would cover my back and record it and inform your client. There maybe someone else on the forum might know a bit more on this, but as i said if its a danger then i would remove the plug and apply a DO NOT USE label.

agree, except for removing the plug. that task would fall on the owner of the equipment.

I have removed plugs in the past because on two golf clubs we do testing for i Failed convector heaters and fitted DO NOT USE only to return the following year and see them still in use with label removed, i did run this past our Select inspector on his visit to use and could see no problem with removing plug if equipment was a danger, one council we did some testing for in a school told use to cut the flex off anything that failed. The HSE does say the operator/ owner of the equipment is responsible but it also states the person carrying out the testing is also responsible i always tend to cover my back,

fair comment. you always have to make allowance for the numptys.
