Quick Question on Part P

X

xions

First off, i apologies if this is in the wrong section.

a bit of background, iv been working as an intruder alarm engineer for 5 years, i want to set up my own company but i'm not a fully qualified electrician. the only electrical work i will be doing is connecting the alarm system up.

what options do i have to be able to do this?

p.s i do have electrical qualifications but not fully qualified.

You will be OK doing that as long as it isn't in a special location under Part P, download and read Approved document P. You will need to issue a Minor Electrical Works Certificate though, and that will involve buying test instruments. Again search Minor Works Electrical Certificate, and you will see the essential tests you need to do. I would get hold of IEE GN3 this explains in detail how to do the tests, and what instrument to do it with.

Why not do a deal with a local sparky to fit all the supplies for you, and save all the hassle of buying test kit, books etc. probably cheaper in the long run. I farm all my alarms out to an alarm fitter, and i get a nice drink out of it as well.

Cheers........Howard
