Have been asked to put something together for the local state primary school. Just wondering if anyone's had any experience with this? From the other thread on here i understand that Grant money = No FiT but just wondering about a few other things...

VAT rate? Would this be considered commercial?
The school seems an absolute nightmare in terms of who is making decisions etc, ultimately who has the final say? I have been approached by a parent not by the school directly, who will then take it to the govenors.

i see the options as:

They pay for it and get the tariffs.
They do rent a roof
They/we arrange finance and they get the tariff.

Any thoughts?

work on the basis that you're going to be best of waiting until after mid december when the EPC requirement goes for schools, and that you're probably looking at a fairly long lead time before even getting a decision, but that it should make financial sense for them so it's quite likely to be a goer.

look at the loan options via carbon trust as an option, and make sure to stay below the cost level at which it has to go to competitive tendering, or whatever they call it now.

Cheers Gav,

Have you got a link to the EPC changes? is this the same thing that we've been discussing about EPC's for churches? Community interest groups etc...

I think carbon trust will only fund private schools.
they didn't seem to mind if they were funding businesses, charities, churches, and I'm pretty sure schools, essentially anything that's not domestic. At least that's the impression I got when I asked them recently.

Don't forget that all your staff will need to be CRB checked, and that they will also want full method statements, and you'll need to notify your insurer also as the potential liabilities will be horrendous, they also want to see the full H&SE qualificiations of all your employess - working at heights, first aid etc, else they probably wont let you on the site.
