hey guys,
i have just started out on my own and have a job to quote for which is a a 4 bedroom house with 4 reception rooms. it has around 40 sockets to install throughout, nothing fancy like gu10s or anything.
i dont want to overquote but at the same time dont want to work for nothing.
are you best working out how many days it will take and give a price on your day rate or give a price per point.
do you guys add a percentage on the materials cost aswell.
could just do with a couple of pointers

thanks

It's not easy getting prices right when you just start and you can lose money very easily if you aren't careful. For this rewire just decide how many days it will take you and multiply by your day rate price, that is for your labour and then materials are added on top. For example,
10 days labour @ÂŁ150 a day = ÂŁ3000 and allow a grand for materials= quote of ÂŁ4000
10 days labour x 2 electricians = ÂŁ3000 labour

I think your maths is out on this one. 10 days labour times ÂŁ150 a day is ÂŁ1500 not ÂŁ3000.
Been on a creative accounting course Kentsparky:rolleyes:
Bob you are correct I will edit my post. Cheers

Per point pricing is basically labour + materials divided by how many points.

Personally I price based on the job. Some jobs a per point pricing just will not work.

I would advise you estimate the time it will take to do the job and multiply that by your day rate. Then add materials with a markup of 10%.

Pricing per point will come later with experience.

I normally price per point win on some break even on others
If im not sure i then work it out on hours and mats and price somewhere in between if theres a big differance
It will take you longer than you think if its the 1st one youve done so price worst case just in case
I started my working life on council rewires and we used to do them in a day and half but that repeative houses on a crap price
The last on I did took nearly 3 weeks but I pride myself on not making a mess and saving as much re decorating as poss
