Hi, just started my level two 2330 and found this web site while doing some research for homework. I can seem to find the answer to the following question: Which conductor from R1 or R2 is broken through the protective device? I think it is R1 is this correct? Thanks

Hi.

R1 = line conductor
R2 = Circuit Protective Conductor (CPC)
Rn = neutral conductor.

So yes the R1 (line) conductor is broken by the protective device under fault/overload conditions.
