i want a proper r2 reel for testing, but dont want to pay a fortune, any ideas.oh and not an old drum of cable before you say it :drool5:

I made one a couple of weeks ago. 50 meters of Silcon cable from RS, cable reel (from Wilkinsons, others types have a gap that thin wire gets caught in) and 4mm plug and socket from RS.
I connected a piece of plastic to the pillar drill and sanded it down until it was the same diameter as the sockets on the cable reel, then fitted a 4mm socket in the middle. Cost around ÂŁ30 altogether I think.

theres been a few threads in the past on this subject......when you look at the price of R2 wander leads....extortionate to say the least....theres tri rated cable as well if silicon is a bit out of reach.......

Sounds gud to me!!, whys the cable silicon?, and where are rs??
RS have branches around the country mate......go online for the nearest one to you.....and silicon cable`s very flexible...and has good resistance to heat as well......but all that comes at a price.....model shops usually stock it although this may be a more expensive option than the likes of RS...farnell...etc and silicon cable`s usually sold in AWG sizes.....like 12 AWG is the equivalent to about 4mm......

i`l make me own up i think.....dont like the idea of paying ÂŁ70 odd for a reel of cable..lol......besides...i like making stuff in my spare time.......so knocking one of these up beats crap TV......any time..lol....

I bought a Megger one off the Test Meter boys on here a while back - think it was about ÂŁ40 if I remember right.

Yeah, fair point, though mine's seen a fairly hard life already without incident.

I would hazard a guess your electrician may be able to contact your DNO and have the switch swapped to a MFS very quickly..
