Hi all

After some opinions from a job I did previously. I was installing fibre into the existing trunking, and not touching the electrics.

It was a 16 floor council block with 4 risers on each landing. Made up of 2x1 framing and MDF boards with firestop board screwed to the back of them. Rough dimensions are 2.4m tall, 2m wide and 0.3m deep. Inside each riser is 100x50 metal trunking split up the middle, left for power, right for telecoms, TV etc. top and bottom is sealed with firestop on every floor. They also hold the water pipes for water supply and heating from a central boiler.

Every landing is like a furnace. Probably touching 30 degrees or more.

On the lower floors the trunking is absolutely rammed with singles, as in the lid won't even go on and held in place with metal cable ties. Probable sits proud by 1-2cm or more. As it got to the top floor there was a few singles as they left to feed the flat next to the riser on each floor.

What would you note on an EICR for this?

C2 minimum…..Ip rating out the window…. basic insulation showing… trunking grouping factors….

Not to mention “good workmanship” and no doubt cables being pressed against the lip of the trunking.

You’re not doing an EICR though, are you?

I wouldn’t be trying to add anything else into that

No mate, it was more out of curiosity than anything else. I see plenty in the high rise blocks that we fibre up that makes me cringe. See plenty of the same trunking with coax etc running in with the power too.

My client would rip me apart for putting the fibre in the same way as some of these electrics. And not much danger from light bouncing down some glass other than eye damage.
