i am 28 years old and wanting a change off career , so i want to go down the apprentice electrician route !

i am not interested in any ( train 4 trade skills ) websites etc as i want to work on the job.

as no electricain will take me on due to my age . if i were to phone around local electricians and
offer then a few thousand to take me on does anyone think that will work ???

i stay at home with my parents again so can afford to stay there rent free while i do this course

also i have heard that when you go to college you get a bursary each month

can anyone enlighten me

cheers

Hi and welcome along fella,
Right, now that the introduction is out of the way, can I ask you why you want to pay ANYONE to teach you a job? What if the sparkie that you pay your few thousand to turns out to be a cabbage? Money lost!!! If you are that desperate to waste some money, you could always send it my way. Invest the money in a proper college course fella. Things will turn around again soon, and in a year - maybe less, you would probably be able to pick up some work as a spark's mate or labourer.
Good luck, and don't dare part with a damn penny.

i agree with ken get yourself around the sites with your c v offering your services your obviosly keen to get on just like them pesky reps they always end up with some business and foot in the door its about right place right time, people get let down and if your there or prominent in head leave a card show willing you may just be suprised, cards in sandwich shops get your face about alot of poeple ,well certainly me like to see someone getting out and doing somthing offer to do a few days as i free trial not hiding behind face less paperwork! that can come later after all it doesnt phisicaly get the job done , dont be put off by the knocks and keep trying it will happen good luck

I suggest you take advantage of the rent free opportunity and go to college for the proper training. Offering a company your money will offer you no security on your investment.
In theory you are in a better position than many in your circumstance as you have the opportunity to live rent free, and so (I assume) have few enough commitments. So, potentially, you can offer yourself on a trainee/mate's wage while you pay for your own training. This, combined with your age, will be an attractive opportunity for an employer and you shouldn't find it too hard to find work.

Following the correct route for training is commendable, start at college use your cash to pay for any required training and tools you will require in the meantime kep trying electricians for work experience sooner or later you will get a break.

Do you mean like when you're out of work for ages and the DWP offer employers to take you on, or actually paying someone for the experience as opposed to working for free?
