Hi guys, first off im not a qualified electrican but i am a qualified engineer and very competent, also assisted a few rewires to help a friend start a buiseness a few years ago.

So to the point. I recently bought a new house and its had a full rewire as all the cables are new colors and it has a newish consumer unit.

Now the rccb trips it could be after a hour or a couple of days and happens at night as well as the day which may lead me to want to say its the boiler but its brand spanking new now it happen before it was installed but alot less frequent the wiring at the junction box looks fine, and the only thing tripping is the rccb not the main fuse,

Now i was just going to replace the whole cable and see if it sorts it out, but thought id ask if anyone has come across simlar before?

Also it looks like durin the rewire the 32amp socket radial circut apeears to be very big... its half the kitchen half the lounge and all upstairs is that a normal thing to do considering there are 3 circuts for the sockets on the consumer unit?

Sorry forgot to say I had someone who says nothing wrong and i just had a thought.... theres a old teleswitch that the new meter runs into but out of that is what looks like 2x 6mm cables supplying consumer unit... does that sound right? I just tested and at the mains switch i only have 199v no 230. If its fluctuating would that cause rccb to trip alone?

As above - get someone in to test it properly. Better in the long run.

One question - you mention a radial circuit. Now this may be correct, but are you sure you don't have 3 x ring final circuits feeding the sockets?

Daz

yes definatly radial Dan not rings. If i should have rings its not a massive house and i could rewire it in a day and get it tested and signed off i dont like the circuts as they are set out anyway and i could put duel rcd box in then too..

But id need to do it now before i decorate every room and carpet it all
