Hi All,

I'm considering a 4Kw fit on my bungalow and I have been quoted on a Siliken 4.0Kwp solar PV system comprising:16 x 250w Siliken panels
Schuco on roof mounting system
Power One PVI 3.6
Ofgen approved GSM Smart generation meter

another

16 x suntech stp250s
Sunnyboy inverter
Similar mounting

Both similar in price

Advice please

Also any installers in N'Lincs are or covering DN21 3AH wanting to quote as only 2 companies have come back to me.

Sorry to trawl but reading some of the regular posts on here there are some diligent tradesman on the forum and I'd be a fool not to ask.

regards

Frank

If they are similar in price then you've got a tough decision to make. The Siliken panels have impressive stats (although I've never used them personally) but the Suntech panels are an excellent choice also and will possibly outperform it. What Sunny Boy inverter have the company spec'd?

Generally, the Siliken panels will be more expensive than the Suntechs but don't let that force your decision.

I'll run both systems through PV Sol in the morning and let you know the expected yield - let me know your location and orientation and I'll sort it out for you (will need to know the model of the inverter though)

Hi BiggsSolar,

I am facing ESE and I don't know what size sunny boy the installer is putting in but it comes with a sunny beam monitor if that helps. I know they are looking at 4kw system or as near as. I'm still awaiting their detailed quote. both systems are about £11700

Morgan123 is a whizz with his crystal ball he's spot on. I wonder how he knew. :D

I appreciate your effort. Mind you I'm learning a lot from you guys already from this forum. I'm looking forward to getting set up, just a couple more quotes. I'll let them know I don't need detailed as I know 16 x 250 panels fit easily, both salespersons said easy fit. Just want best set up I can for my money.

Regards

Frank

Okay, I've worked on the assumption that the Suntech system is set up for a SB4000TL. The Suntech system yields 3,104kWh annually.

The Siliken set up is calculated to yield 2,994kWh.

Two good set ups.

Thank you. My salesman quoted 3286kWh annually for the Siliken which is not too dissimilar. I will check on the Sunny Boy and ensure if I have it, that it is the SB4000TL.

Now how do I choose between them?

Has anyone used Apollo or Home solar.co?

The figure of 3,268kWh comes from the SAP calculation. It is the figure you arrive at for a SE facing system, unshaded, 4kWp and by using the 2009 SAP method.

The SAP formula is very general and can be found here: http://www.bre.co.uk/filelibrary/SAP/2009/SAP-2009_9-90.pdf

The software figures that I have provided are based on local climate data, an ESE orientation and take panel and inverter characteristics into consideration.
