I personally don't like cables run round corners like this , but is it against code ?

Good question @Dustydazzler . IMO:

Where the corner bit of the wall jutts out at 0:58, creating an external corner. If the sides of that corner bit are <=300mm, then the cables are technically within zone, ie <=150mm from the junction of 2 walls. ∴ Compliant.

If the sides of that cornery bit are >300mm, then the cables will be out of zone for some of their run. ∴ Non compliant.

It's an interesting question - and maybe one where the Regs don't back up what common sense might tell you.

The relevant reg only mentions the wall with an accessory on it (or the reverse if less than 100mm)

But if you see a socket on the main walls in this room, then it might make sense to consider that cabling might be run horizontally, including the "cornery bit"

It sounds like a fitted wardrobe is going in place in front of one of the sockets, which muddies things further since the original 'socket' may not be brought forward into the wardrobe and won't give that clue.

If the wardrobes are fixed, then could the surface of the wall said to be the inside of the cupboard, or the original wall behind it?

I think the compliant method would have been to take it vertically to 150mm below ceiling (looks like would not require disturbing coving) and then run it round.

Quite a bit of extra work though.

So probably non compliant, but I wouldn't say necessarily dangerous.

Don't like it at all. Original socket not only behind (or at best at the back of) a new wardrobe, but also now blanked off.

The one saving grace (from a safety perspective, rather than regulatory) is that it's very unlikely that anyone would ever drill at the level of those cables, although the wardrobe fitters just might.

Hi again, "trying to save money" doesn't really come into it. We parted company with the original sparky, as he was so unreliable. Jon
