Hi all just after some general advertising advice from what you have done / experienced.

Is thomsonlocal (Online) worth it the guy on the phone said that he would eat his shorts if i didnt get at least one lead in the first month making the money back for the membership.. 150 quid for 6 months online service.

Also ratedpeople, they do a £10 introduction offer for 3 months, has anyone used ratedpeople is it worth it if so why and if not why

Cheers

Thomson local will ensure that you get lots of contact from other companies (including email) but none of them interested in your services :)

forget thompsom local. ratted people might be worth a punt, but be careful what leads you buy. bad leads ( ones you can't quote on)you get a credit. £10 is not a lot to take a chance. £150 is dead money .

Yeh i put a free add on yellowpages and since then ive had Numerous calls from people saying like i can put you in a leaflet and you will be only spark lol how about rated people?

I signed up with Thomson and got nothing!

The trick is sign up with them - make out your had on cash and they will let u off for 1 month without paying as well as slashing the price by half.
Try it for just under 2 weeks, if you get a lead then up to you if you stay or go - if you go make sure it is within 2 weeks of signing up and use the distance selling regs to leave them without paying!

Under the distance selling regs you have the right to cancel anything you buy over the internet or phone with no cost to you at all.

Persnally the only good one is Yellow Pages as they have F***** it up again - the free listings are now in the back in alphabetical order (company name) and the section for electricians is only for those who pay.

The free listing on Yell has got me on average 1 per month - also on yell you have to pay extra to be top on the mobile app - dont forget the ones who want an emergency electrician has no internet so they use their mobile and search that way on the app or look in yellow pages because they have no electric and no internet!

Cant comment on Rented People but again use distance selling regs and they have to refund you the reg fee - try it for 2 weeks and see what you can do

AS far as all these leaflets for raising money for charities - tell them to get lost and put the phone down!
NO CHARITY DOES THIS! These charities does not exisit and if they do they dont see a profit from it! - plus the advert they promise never gets printed (apart from your free copy of it!)

I tried Rated people.

Didn't loose money, didn't make a great deal.

Clients set budget.
Clients are not rated.
Anybody can register.
Too many people willing to work for peanuts.

I signed up for the 10 offer. Used my free lead on a job to add new circuit for hot tub and a couple of others, basic fault find and repair.

I've spent too much time though, reading the job descriptions, seeing what their budget is then wetting myself laughing. Its surprising how quickly the jobs get purchased, up to 3 people can buy the lead. But i think its whoever is willing to do it the cheapest gets it.

I'll post some up for you amusement.

On another note though, whats stopping any member of rated people subbing the leads out to their mates? Use one membership for a few of you?

Typical rated people lead:

RatedPeople said:
New RP £5.00 + VAT lead: reply with F425 to Buy: WR144AA. repair mains powered smoke detector, repair light fitting and fit new light fitting. Budget Under £100.00

I can guarantee that lead will be bought by 3 people within 2 minutes of you receiving that text.

I generally only go for the more specialist leads (door entry, security etc)
