Hi all. I have today spent the day with the NICEIC assessor to gain the company the NICEIC badge and all went well. It's a pretty intense day and believe the hype when they say that no stone is left un turned!! You really need tgo know your stuff and display a sound testing knowledge and understanding as well as showing how to perform the tests whilst sweating your balls off because he watches every move!!!!!
I'm just interested to hear from others what the going rate is for such a position ? The qualifications and knowledge you need must be rewarded somewhere along the line...................or should we be putting up plasterboard as that's where all the money is!!...lol

Cheers guys (and gals)

I've been a QS for a few years now and for a couple companies. Monies went up, but it'll depend on how you apply the title. If simply do it on the side then a little more money is expected. However you can progress further if the work is there by doing just inspections, alongside maybe training and toolbox talks of other electricians.

When I first became QS I was upped from 27k to 32k.

For me to use my skills to the best of my ability it would be more training and assessment based and so closer to 38k.

I'm currently paying myself 32k, and freelance as a lecturer and inspector for around £23 per hour on the side.

£18.68 per hour on the cards with a company vehicle supplied + overtime rates of 1.5 and double.

For this i look after all of the companys testing and supervise the larger projects.

Well, you'd certainly hope for extra money for all of the effort and training you have to go through to get the title of QS eh?
Cheers for the replies.............I'll leave it a few days and then have a 'little chat' with the boss!!!!!
