Hello everyone
new electrician signing on.
Have a small query?
I have to do some alterations to a small tv shop soon.
I have no info at all yet about the installation as yet. I am just getting info in my head together before i get on site.
Being a small commercial site, i am presuming it will be a 3 phase supply. No probs.
My question relates to shock protection. When doing alterations, will i have to upgrade to rcbo`s for each circuit if not already fitted. I totally understand 17th edition for domestics, but am a little unsure to shop work now. I am also presuming as the shop is still in use, fire and emergency will be in place, so should be a breeze.
Any info will be gratefully received.
Ta very much

The 17 th is for Every electrical installtion except for those covered in section 110.2. It is true that some licencing authorites and other British standards also come into play, but generally domestic, commercial and industrial come under the Regs.

Don't assume becasue it's a small commercial outlet it is 3 phase.

As far as "shock protection" it depends on what your alterations are. If you are running new circuits then you need to run them as per the BS 7671-2008 or if there is a local authority standard that needs to be adhered to. Mostly though this local standard would be for building regs and not normally electrical regs, but not never.

If you require to complete an EIC then like domestic you need to upgrade your bonding if required and carry out all tests on your new addition or alteration.

If it's a matter of just fitting an extra socket or two, or and extra light to already existing circuits then you only need to do an MEIWC.

As it is commercial then you don't have to Part P it, unless any work in the unit affects a flat that may be there. If there is no living accomodation then don't worry about that.

One more thing to watch, is if building control are involved for any building works, then you will need EM's and fire detection too.
