monkee

Has any one else had this, just installed a dual split board,

Make wylex, when testing both RCD units it failed the first test which is the half rated test or non trip test.

Now I did the test away from the board and at the board but made no difference!

has this happened to any one else please advise..

My test gear is megger and it less than six months old and its used alot...:smiley2:

Does sound like a faulty batch. Did you ramp them to see what they are tripping at.

If you tested just at the socket I would also have thrown in perhaps you a load still connected somewhere, which will affect results, but you say you also tested at the CU ...................you did of course isolate the MCBs when you tested at the CU ?

Monkee - might sound a daft question, but how are they failing - is it that they are not tripping? ( there not supposed to!). i used to use quite a few Wylex boards, and only ever had a couple with problems, and that was the x5 tests on both

This will work for faulty Wylex RCD's that trip upon energizing aswell... Turn all the power off by the main switch and then give the front of the RCD (where the 'WYlex 80A 30mA RCD' is wrote or whatever it is) a good couple of hits with either ur fist or the handle of your snips. Power it all back up and it should of cured it.

Does the owner need to do this if her dear hubby is getting a shock off his lawn mower just to make sure it operates correctly when needed, if this is how to solve the problem then their is an inherit design flaw and tech' should be talked to to try find an acceptable solution.

If all else fails “HIT IT”

I just hope you write in jest!

Not neccesarily, my dads solution to most problems like this is to reach for the hammer, i have since removed all hammers from his house, the only time i use one for non hammer work is when the vending machine does not give me my change.

Tis tha Yorkshire way, lad.

I came home once and the barstewards had broken in and put a card meter in, for some reason I lost the plot and smashed it up with a hammer (I'm not a violent man at all, honest (also from Leeds))
Reported it and they came round and replaced it, no questions asked.

Let me clear this up, when it happened whilst we were on the council rewires in leeds we phoned wylex and from what i remember they said that after they are made and stored flat in the fuseboard something inside it sticks and it needs a tap to release it when its installed. Obviously you check the functionality and test the RCD when testing. If it's still faulty, not tripping, not tripping in time, or tripping on half times you replace it. When i said hit it, i didnt mean hit it hard like your chopping out on red brick.
