Hi fellas. I have purchased a Volvex RCD fused connection unit to install between a 13amp source and a downflow heater. The heater is double insulated so has no earth wire, will this be ok to use with the RCD and if so do I need to connect an earth to the RCD from my source. Also as the heater has its own on/off switch will I need to put a switch between the RCD and heater. The heater will be located in a zone 3 and the RCD will be inside a cupboard.
Fellas I am not an electrician so can I ask for any advice to be given in layman terms. Cheers

Part P is the section of the building regs that covers electrical work in peoples homes. The work you are proposing is notifiable to your Local Authority Building Control Dept.. This will incur a substantial fee if you do not use the services of an electrician who is a member of a competent persons scheme. I strongly recommend you do this as although you appear to have a better grasp than most DIYers you're asking questions that indicate you don't have the required knowledge to complete the job safely.
I'm not trying to rain on your parade here, I actually admire your willingness to have a go but the cost of getting a spark to carry out this for you will be invaluable in terms of peace of mind.
What do you know of the following:-
Safe isolation procedures
Cable selection
Inspection and testing
One more thing, would you be willing to try to repipe the gas supply to your central heating boiler?
Remember I'm not trying to rain on your parade here mate:)

Thanks a lot for your remarks I guess I will be taking on your advice re getting someone in to sort it for me I was just hoping it would not be too involved so as to be able to do it myself. Thanks again

Fair play to you for showing willing though. Take a look at find a spark in your area in business related subforum, I'll bet there's a member near you who if asked may be happy for you to do a little of the work for him to keep the cost down a little
