RCD Minor works issue

I have a client that wants some minor works done on her house. She wants lights moved and an additonal outside light put on an existing circuit. Whats the deal with RCD protection on these as she has an old cartridge fuse CU with no RCD protection. Do I have to install an rcd for that circuit? only do the work if she is willing to replace the CU? or does RCD protection not apply to what im doing? Any help greatly appreciated.

The RCD only applies to what YOU are doing.

However, by the sounds of it, it may be easier to RCD protect the whole circuit.

Fit a standalone RCD unit with a 6A MCB.

Feed the RCD with tails from the old CU and take the lighting circuit tails from there.

we usualy use rcd spurs with 5 amp fuses when its lighting feeds only about £20 from the wholesalers
