Hi

Hope someone can clarify this one for me;)
I have been asked to do a job to replace some damaged bollards at a hotel. The circuit in question has a few problems with bad terminations and high ZS readings which I hope to rectify. The one thing I am not sure is the fact that there is no RCD on the circuit. The MCB is overrated anyway which will need looking at but as I have not installed a new circuit or changed the existing what should I do. Do I have to put one in in this instance?

I am worried that the circuit would have nuisance tripping anyway if I fitted an RCD.

Cheers

Are the hotel owners likely to ask unqualified staff to drill into walls, I doubt it.
The requirement for RCD protection is mostly for domestic situations and socket outlets. For installations under the supervision of a skilled or instructed person or where only authorised equipment is used and only skilled persons will work on the building, RCD protection is not required.

If the cables are earth shielded and the Zs is OK then I don't think you would need to use RCD protection. (not 100% sure) However, as these lighting bollards outside and are often damaged, both accidentally and deliberately, I would want to use one.

No to all. Also would require a means of isolation for PIV - pulling a fuse wouldn't be acceptable. I don't mean to seem disrespectful, but this...
