Hi All,

New to the site, 1st post.

Could anyone out there tell me that if I add an extra socket to an existing ring and then add an RCD main switch to a rewirable fuse board, do I carry out an electrical installation test or minor works cert, and if I carry out elec instal test, do I need to test all circuits in the fuse board.

Thanks for any info anyone can give

Hi welcome to the forum

any change in protection needs an EIC, test you have to do are for the ring circuit and new s/o plus a functional of the rcd which I presume is 30mA

OK but only thing is it looks like you are going to cover the whole board with a 30mA RCD which is not agood ides, pound to a pinch its going to trip , you could divert ring only via the RCD if you dont want to fit a split board

I've got a similar problem although its a little more tricky then the OPs.

I visited a house with a rewireable board with no RCD protection and added an additional fused spur unit for the dishwasher, I installed an RCD Fused spur to protect the new addition to the circuit for my part.

Now on the Minor works certificate under installation details it mentions

RCD Protection

Now am I going to tick Yes on this as I installed an RCD Fused spur or No as the main installation isn't protected by an RCD unit.

I would make the presumption that this is going to be a Yes as some part of the property does have protection and i have highlighted that this is only the fused spur unit that i have installed.

The joys of RCD socket outlets ! Shove one in, do a minor works and run to the pub with the cash !

Cough......check the bonding etc first, though. Happy supping !
