RCD or RCCB???

I was examining an RCD and also a RCCB the other day. Both of which had exactly identical circuit diagrams.

My question:

Are these both the same?

If no, where/when would you use a RCCB?

Think you will find they are both the same RCCB is the correct title for RCD if we want to be polically correct

Have a look in the regs book definitions section, page 29 RCCB just stands for Residual current operated circuit breaker. it is just a RCD but in a circuit breaker form still with no overload protection.

It is a type of RCD, as is an SRCD, an RCBO etc.

Well if you want to be particularly picky you could say that RCCD's & RCBO's are types of RCD.

Personally I prefer the term "accurate" or "correct" rather than "----".

No. It is a type of RCD. Other devices are also types of RCD.

RCD is a generic term.

Differance yes there is an RCD protects agains a fault to earth ,current ratings can vary but does not act as an overload , an RCBO is a combination of an RCD and an MCB so providing protection from earth faults as well as over load
