Hello guys,

Carrying out installation in a church (TN-CS). installing 13A metal clad socket outlets high level to feed two projectors. All circuitry surface P clipped.
Particular sub dist board which protects and isolates the circuit we are coming from is old metal clad wylex with no RCD protection (Circuit is a dedicated Audio visual circuit and feeds no outlets that are likely to be used for any thing other than audio visual within the church). Church not too keen on additional cost to RCD protect this board. Im considering my socket outlet additions as outlets that do not require RCD protection as they are not outlets likely to supply equipment outdoors due to their 12 foot high location. And I will label outlets as so. Much like omission of RCD protection for fridge freezer outlets etc.
Obviously will record absence of RCD protection on MWC but what do you all think ?

sounds good to me. but for the extra cost of an RCD ( about ÂŁ20) why not fit one?

Cause Churches are tighter than a ducks.... Besides no room in dist cupboard at all and would mean an entire CU change. Suppose we could put RCD sockets in though, theres a thought...

if i were to fit RCD in that situation, i would come off the breaker/fuse and neutral to RCD in din rail adaptable box, then to the sockets, but as Lenny and I have said. no RCD, label as such..... fine.

If the cableing is surface mount then no requirement for additional protection there....if you did want to, an RCD socket outlet could be used but, as has been said, in this instance RCD protection can be ommitted.
