I am adding a switch (the wiring which will be chased less than 50mm deep into the wall) to a lighting circuit in a house where all the circuits are protected by 1 RCD, obviously this does not provide any discrimination between circuits.

In order to provide RCD protection for the lighting circuit in question and also to provide RCD protection and discrimination for other circuits one idea I had was to remove the existing RCD and replace relevant MCBs with RCBOs (probably not popular with the customer because of the cost). There are no spare slots in the consumer unit. Leaving the existing RCD in place creates problems with any additional RCD protection.

Any practical ideas for this one please.

Many thanks.

unless the customer wants to pay for a upgrade to the CU i would just leave it, nothing wrong with just the 1 RCD (not practical or recommended any more)

alternatives are

new Fuse Box 17th Edition
Replace with RCBO and Isololator

Yea just leave it as it is. As long as RCD protection is there theres nothing to worry about. The only time you would have to worry about discrimination is when changing the CU or rewiring etc. MAYBE adding a new circuit, but normally not even then.

No to all. Also would require a means of isolation for PIV - pulling a fuse wouldn't be acceptable. I don't mean to seem disrespectful, but this...

In my opinion replacing the consumer unit and waiting to see which RCBO trips is not a good fault finding technique. If the lighting circuit...
