HI,

I want to provide additional protection (RCD) to a sockets circuit in a dwelling, there is no room in the consumer unit for a RCBO (too tall!) and no free slots for a RCD. Could a RCD in an enclosure be used between the circuit MCB and the sockets? with it being a ring circuit would an RCD be needed on both sides of the circuit.

Thanks in advance.

Kev

Your best bet is to use an additional 2 way consumer unit - often referred to as a shower board - and put the circuit on that. You can pick them up for about ÂŁ20, and you will have to split the tails in a henley block to each consumer unit.

DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU ARE NOT AN ELECTRICIAN.

As per above from Dave. Swap to a 63A outlet and problem goes away. What gets plugged into it is not part of an inspection.
