RCD tripping Continuity test

Hi, am doing a continuity test on living room light, downstairs MCB off, last light in circuit, incoming to light disconnected, disconnect switch twin and earth, cross connected Earth and neutral in switch, did a continuity test at light and the RCD trips.


Any help appreciated, only thing I could think of is that the current sent from tester is leaking out the switch cable into another cable and tripping RCD.

the lighting mcb was isolated, cant isolate full board as my dad is on oxygen so needs sockets on

Try disconnecting the neutral next time mate and taking the 'bulb' out or your dad will 'lamp' you

the bulb was out the light was disconnected and the natural was disconnected

Did you disconnect the junction box under the floorboards?

Or should that be 'under the laminates' lmao

rewire as in re wire, replace a run of cable between light fittings and switch cus of ir fault

Before you rip up floor boards, why don't you use your R2 lead and confirm that this "isolated" cable, is in fact, isolated completely from the CU

I think you are going to cause unnecessary work here. Post up your test results the IR readings! If its showing 0.00 Meg switch to ohms and see what it is reading and I bet its a low figure due to it back feeding into the neutral via the line and back to earth at your CU. If the RCD is tripping surely that is telling you something so sort that connection issue out first. Just out of interest what was the reason you started doing the tests :90: As Murdoch has said get your wander lead out for starters !

Well I used to get a clout on the back of the head if I said bulb even now I have to say bulb to the girls at the letting agent and when I do I still feel myself bracing for the clout :wink5:

We used to get a cuff round the back of the head too. A bulb is the glass that encases a 'filament', the 'whole thing is called a filament lamp'.

Next time I go to my supplier I need to ask for a 60 watt filament lamp or a 100 watt lamp ?
