I have a split CU and have just added a new ring (14 sockets) a 10.5k shower and lighting circuit. All of these are as a result of a third floor being added to the house. Everything works perfectly but when the shower is on and I use my drill in any of the 3rd floor sockets, the RCD trips. I have moved the shower and sockets to the 'non RCD' side of the CU and this works fine with no tripping of the MCB. Clearly this isn't correct and I need to rectify the fault before moving the wiring back to the RCD side. Any ideas please? Adders

Too many variables here.

1) did you test everything before you fitted the new board
2) have you run a normal RCD test
3) how do you know it's not your appliance

4) probably a neutral fault if none of the above and 5) are you competent to be doing this work?

sound to me like you have clipped the neutral either connecting the shower switch or in one of the sockets so its the test kit out and test dont forget the earths and neutrals are commoned at the board so a fault in either of the circuits could effect the RCD my moneys on a trapped or clipped neutral

This thread might not fit the catagory but over the last few months OPs have posted up their problems which is causing them a headache.

Many forum members reply giving good sound advice but the OP never puts another reply on the thread!

Is it me or am I just thinking out loud wrongly!!!!

Cripes, do Dyson Hoovers connect to the mobile network now!

Me thinks it a DIY job or builder.

Maybe the OP can put our mindsd at rest.

Its amazing what gadgets can post replies on the forum when you see the SENT FROM MY etc

Back to the post we are still waiting for a few questions to be answered by the OP to try and help sort this issue!

IMO the circuits should be left out of the board as the RCD is clearly telling you that a fault of some discription is present and quite possibly enough to give somone a substantial shock!

A few basic dead tests should point you in the right direction !!
