RCD with variable ms an mA settings

Hi, been looking at variable RCDs as came across one at a job, settings range from 30mA to 3 Amps and ms from no delay to 3 second delay can someone explain please? As if I come to test my tester only goes up to 1000mA also some I’ve seen are set on like 0.5 seconds which isn’t an RCD meant to trip within 500ms? Thanks

well you should be testing on 50% first it shouldn't trip. Check you meter instruction book should give all the answers.

Ive just tried it, and it comes up with >1999ms and a tick to say it’s passed half times

So X1 on my tester only goes up to 500ms time delayed

I've just tried mine out on an unprotected (by RCD). It counts up to 30sec set 0n all mA then when no trip shows >600ms.
