hi everyone

been asked to quote for a re-wire that is a 3 bed bungalow and a 2 bed flat.

the bungalow sits on a hill and the flat is on the under side of the bungalow. All the ceilings are down below allowing easy access to the joists for the ring up in the bungalow. the bungalow has a roof space so the lighting should be ok. the flat down under the bungalow like i said has all ceilings down and some of the walls bair brick being plastered, so can put capping over cables on them walls without chasing.

what would others say a fair price would be for one sparks and labourer?

I was thinking £5000

thanks

count up the points, including light switches. x by £45 per point, can't go wrong. ( any fancy stuff like stainles fittings extra.)

I would be careful putting your prices on here. A few members seem to take offence if you are cheaper than what they believe an electrician should charge. As Durham says, the only way to price is with how much you feel comfortable with. It is an awkward time at the minute because if you go too high, there is not just a "Bodgit and scarper" type company down the road that will undercut you, but also a lot of qualified electricians are almost buying work due to there been so little around.
About 6 weeks ago I quoted for a job and received a call from the architect telling me I was £30k higher than the other NICEIC registered company. I had quoted £62k and the materials alone cost over £32k so told him I couldn't compete, however only last week I got a call from him asking if I could resubmit my quote as the other company had gone bust, after speaking to him they admitted they were trying to do the job for cost plus wages to try to keep their company rolling through the hard times.
For a three bedroom I would like to give 5 days for first fix, 3 for second and 1 day for testing so 9 days, if I was aiming to earn £20 per hour it would equate to £1440 for my wage, I normally pay a labourer £10 per hour so £720 for him and then materials plus 15%-20%. I never really try to think about things like fuel cost, insurances, memberships etc as they are still paid whether I am working or not. The 2 bedroom probable gives 7 days so this means about another £1600 in wages giving £3940. Can you get the materials for both jobs for around £1k?

Hope this helps mate

Recently one of my friends in Gants Hill, Essex had his 3 bedroom house rewired completely; a builder did the rewiring and an electrician certified the installation and it costed him only £2500.

Often, it's only the price that matters more than anything else; no wonder electricians are losing out to builders.

iv'e just done a 3 bed semi for £2400, but it was no frills. only 2 extra sockets over and above what was in already. most drops were in conduit, so minimal chasing. took me and a mate 7 days , with the house occupied.

my last rewire was in october 2010 (partial) only did the lighting circuit of a 2 up 2 down as they were in VIR.

all in all it took 2.5 days to change the CU, rewire lights (no chasing as managed to re use old metal conduit drops in walls and under floors..

also a cooker cable was pulled in while floor was up and a new circuit was installed (with final drops in whit PVC trunking)

all in all i charged the landlord 1k ( materials came to about 200 quid )
so its swings and roundabouts!!
