There's no firms that want blokes on the books anymore and most who were laid off had to go self employed.

When you say self employed do you mean strictly working for yourself and being part of a scheme? I myself am self employed under CIS.

Just wondered why people decided to go self employed and was it a good move?

I decide when i work, when i go home, what days to have off, when to have a brew and a smoke, when to have my holidays. I can pick and choose the jobs i want.
I keep all the profit.

I went self employed because I got fed of working for nob ends, r slickers, and other assorted gonads who liked to use buzz words and phrases.

I had a nice carrot dangled before me, so took voluntary redundancy. Its the best thing i ever did.

BUT there are downsides...........PAPERWORK and ACCOUNTS!

Cheers...........Howard

i myself was made redundant twice in a year, now on my own and looking for contracts, got everything i need including elecsa reg,not much at the moment but trying my best, are you with a firm and thinking of going self employed?

whilst on the subject,i put down for some free business listings and do you think these people will leave you alone,no chance call after call, improve your listings its only ÂŁ50 pcm or another its only ÂŁ90 pcm, call barring in operation lol

most of that is true. but when the economy is on the slide employers try to employ for as little as possible, there are electrical and plumbing jobs out there for as little as ÂŁ10 an hour. there are people out there desperate for work. if you are self employed and you work hard. slowly but surely the work will come in.if on one morning you have no work go out dropping leaflets thru letterboxes. people are always on the lookout for good and reliable tradesmen. it is not for everyone.

being employed isnt as safe as you think, its like being self emplyed but with only one client (ever heard of dont put your eggs in one basket) when they pull out you've got no back up or other work to fall back on just the dole que for a while then get emplyed again then get laid off again hello JSA again

The question is do you want a salary each month (fingers crossed) or go self employed with no salary guaranteed each month but have the satisfaction 2 or 3 years down the line when you've built up a client base and the profits/salary can be taken?
