Just take one from the workshop when the warders are not looking:D

Seriously depends what you won't to use it for and how accurate the readings from it is required.
 
If you mean handheld digital multimeter for voltage resistance etc then ÂŁ35 - ÂŁ40 in maplin uni t105 however I got one on eBay ÂŁ25 new but if you got money to spend then fluke. If you mean the multi testers I couldn't comment I'm a fire system engineer so handheld does the job

IMO do not go for a cheap and chearfull meter. Like all test equipment you get what you pay for.
Go for a fluke or some other known make... be aware though that most folk on here don't recommend you use a mulimeter for test purposes... I can't understand the reasoning behind this but hey, what do I know ?
