Hi guys,

Can any one recommend a bathroom extractor fan that doesnt need down rating through a 3 amp fuse connection unit? I am gonna connect it through a 3 pole fan isolater using 3 core for the switch & perm live. But alot of the fans now a days say you need to connect it through a 3a fcu. I know you can get fans that dont need to be down rated to 3 amps but I wondered if you guys know which are the best ones to get and roughly how much and were from???

Cheers

Jay

So what is the worst that is going to happen if it is on with the lighting breaker.
If it goes wrong it will need changing whether its on with the lighting or a fcu. sorry, I know what they say on the instructions but i worry over bigger things now.
In saying that, its my view and you are free to fit the way you want to fella.

Well if you fail to follow manufacturers instructions and something with that fan goes wrong you are responsible if they are not followed.

Had my Elecsa assessment yesterday with Ray Chivers and he told me of a fuse board that caught fire, the installer was held responsible because he couldn't prove he had tightened the MCBs and main switch up to the correct tension. Could have easily been avoided by the sparks simply having a Torque driver in his tool kit.

And exactly how would the manufacturer prove that the sparky had been the only one to touch the board?

This is getting daft IMHO

Elecsa, Napit and NICEIC should exert their energy stamping down on the rogues and educating Joe Public about the sense in using their scheme members

That seems a bit extreme or even, dare I say, far fetched to me.

Hi,

Thanks lads. Ive just ben looking on the net and I came across Greenwoods ventillation. They do a fan with a timer and in there instructions it states that if the fan is connected to a lighting circuit protected by a 5 amp fuse, then no local fuse is required, just need to confirm that this is the same for 6 amp fuses as well! Not a bad price neither. Any body know where to get any others?

Cheers

Jay

seriously!!

3A - 6A will be a very close call when it goes pop!! even a photo finish will be very close..!

just bang it on a 6 with an fan isolator

This is what I have always done, but the builder Im doing this for said the building inspecter is a bit of a pranny, so just want to do it right first time so he cant be an --- and make me change it.

Cheers for your thoughts though guys, seems like most of you do the same as me.

i dont think the building inspector will be worried to much about your 3A fuse..!! he wants to see Damp Proof, Fire Stopping , Energy saving and Drains... and how will he know it says put a 3 amp fuse in... instructions what instructions mate..!
