regs on earthing SWA

can any one show me a regulation that the SWA stel outcore has to be earthed. i understand if its to a metal box ect. but plastic?

If you mean the armour, it's normally earthed to provide some protection for the cable (as opposed to one of the inner cores that may supply an earth). The armour can also be used as the earth supply as well.

yes i know it can be used supple a earth. but if the is no need to use the armour as a erath because there is aready a core used for this. what regulation does it come under if its not earth at a plastic box, i have seen lots of these and no amour was earthed

The SWA should ALWAYS be earthed whether at just one end or both. It performs as an earth protection barrier to the cores of the cable!!

The armour is considered to be an exposed conductive part and so must be connected to earth. Also a reg that any buried swa must have it's armour earthed.
