Part P is just for the home, so i am just wondering if there are separate regs for industrial, commercial etc. Ive got a job in a hospital soon and just want to make sure everything is done correctly.

Thanks.

There are not seperate regulations for an hospital the installation will still come under the BS 7671-2008. What you will though find that quite a lot of specifiactions will be added to this by the NHS Trust. One maybe what I remember is that all lighting circuits will have to be wired in 1.5mm^.

You should get a scope of works (SoW) from the hospital and it should give you their requirements for the work

Also depending on What part there may be special instalations Xray rooms , the one that they send full body through scanner thingy as malcom says the SOW should give you advice as to possible special instalations and requirements some might want 4mm ring not 2.5 mm 2.5 for lighting ect ect read the scope as to materials one guy I worked for fitted Crabtree sockets 50 in a building only to be told that crabtree didnt have a 10yr gaurentee he had to replace them all with MK

This thread got me thinking another was screws. I run a load of trunking and fitted all the switch gear, accessories with black Japan, the clerk of works came and told me replace them all the scope of works called from brass, gutted as that was a freebie weekend job I had to do as the plant room was coming on line the monday.

The Electricity at work regulations 1989, and The Health and Safety Act 1974 are the statutory documents that cover all Electrical work carried out in Commercial and Industrial environments. And BS7671, On site Guide, and GN3 are the non statutory documents for the same amongst a lot of other guidance notes that the IET publish.

And as malcolm states, you will also need to see the spec for the job as well to get the design correct.

Cheers........Howard

Times like these the NICEIC Fullscope Approved membership comes in handy for a bit of direction. Check your insurance as well to make sure your covered.

I'm meant to be going a to a dentist next week to add extra isolation points on the x-ray machines, something to do with health and safety. The user must be able to isolate the machine both within and outside the room Ive been told.
