Hi,

I believe I know what regulation 559.6.1.100 means, I would like your opinions on what it means.

When I say I think I know what it means, I would like some clarity in case my understand has been twisted on Thursday by the NICEIC bloke.

"Consideration shall be given to the provision of the neutral conductor, at each switch position, to facilitate the installation of electronic switching devices"

That's how I understand it. Ok so the NICEIC bloke said as I had looped in at the ceiling roses on a rewire I showed him, he had to mark it down as departure as give me a cross for that.

I said yes, but I designed and installed the installation, and I did give it consideration (I didn't but I told him this) and I chose to fit normal light switches.

The problem is not with the regulations (which of course you know by heart!) it is with the twisted interpretation that the schemes place on the regulations.
They should not be permitted to apply that sort of "adjustment" if the regulations permit this variation (which they do)

ask the miserable sod if he wants you to install 3phase 500A supply for a time machine, just in case it might be required in the future ( or should that be in the past ).

I think the key word is consideration which is what I did for all of 0.4s

Ill just show him 5 jobs next time that are bang on perfect, he was a really nice bloke, but looking at it, he was twisting a few things.
he has to. he's got to justify his pension.

Uksparks, the more I read about your recent assessment, the more I'm astounded as to how different is was compared to my ELECSA ones these last few years. It almost seems like they are going out of their way to find deficiencies to pull you up on - whereas my experience with ELECSA has been that they are doing their best to help you pass. Perhaps you've had a rogue assessor who's not understood what this is all about!

Just to add he said next time I will be mark down as a repeat non conformance if I wire a light circuit in that way again for next years assessment...

i wasn't aware of this but having just got my bgb down I think the wording of the regs is important, it says "consideration" which, to me, doesn't mean run a neutral to each switch, it means consider it at the design stage, and then discuss with client. I can't see how you could be marked down for this.

that said I always drop neutrals to switches downstairs and often upstairs too.
