afaik, cables and non=electrical services should be installed so that either will not cause detriment to the other ( 528.3.4 bgb ). i have a gas fitter telling me that my SWA should be 250mm from his gas pipe. i need to hit him with a reg., preferably one that is more specific than the one quoted above. thanks, chaps.

found it. it's in the osg. which refers to BS6891:

BS 6891:2005 requires that electrical equipment be seperated from gas pipes by a minimum of 150mm and electrical cables by seperated from gas pipes by a minimum of 25mm.

Any help for ya? : Regulation 528.3.3 requires that where an electrical service is installed in proximity to a non-electrical service, it must be arranged so that any foreseeable operation carried out on the other service will not cause damage to the electrical service or the converse. This can be achieved by suitable spacing or mechanical or thermal shielding.
BS 6891:2005 Installation of low pressure gas pipework in domestic premises, clause 8.16.2 states that gas installation pipes must be spaced at least 150mm away from electricity meters, controls, electrical switches or sockets, distribution boards or consumer units. There should also be a separation between a supply or distribution cable of at least 25mm for domestic pipework up to 35mm or 50mm for piepwork over 35mm.

If it's the gas regs then that concerns the placing of gas pipes in proximity to cables, not the other way round. Get him to move his pipes :D
trouble is that his pipes were there before me. DNO installed 3 external meter boxes with the bottoms 4" above his pipe. I then has to run 3 10mm SWA distribution cables in that 4" gap, which itself is only a foot above ground level. I'll find out on Sunday which went in first, the DNO boxes or his pipe.

It's meant to prevent damage when working on 1 or other service.

Tell him you can manage not to cut open a Gas pipe when working on cables, so he should be able not to set fire to your SWA with his blowlamp.

He wouldn't set fire to skirting board if it was only 25mm away.
Oh hang on........

the gas pipe was first, then the DNO fitted their meter boxes close above the pipe. just phone client and it looks like it's just a simple matter of redressing the cables to ensure the 25mm spacing.
