Hello i am currently doing my planning assignment for my testing practical exam.

I need to state the statutory regulations and codes of practice relevent to the inspection and testing process and safe isolation procedure.

Could anyone tell me where i can find these or what they are? z

Thanks a lot in advance for any replies!

Well no i dont feel confident with it but neither does anyone in any of the classes i have been in and i tend to do a lot better then everyone else i just lack the confidence i would rather think im doing crap and put in a lot more effort then think im doing okay and fail, i do have EAWR and HASAWA down but im not 100% they are correct and that i dont need more down.

Jcoyle, I really dont want to sound like Im putting you down but If your not confident in testing, then you really should wait until you are, before you take this exam. You will have to do live tests to pass and if you do them while shaking, or do them wrong because your not confident, you may put yourself and the assessor in danger. The more practical experiance you can gain before doing the course, the esier it will be. All the theory stuff can be gained by reading GN3, BGB, Onsite guide and the many other publications about testing. Good luck!!

Barely anyone in my class is confident, the test isnt for another month i am just doing the planning at the moment so in that time i will of had 4 testing sessions and i am aiming to go to all four night classes too to make sure i am confident so i think i will be okay, the only problem i am having with the planning is the fact we have only been doing live testing for a month and we are expected to write down in detail each test when we may of only done it once or twice, then theres just things like BS numbers i need to make sure i remember.

As the others have said, GN3 is the best one to learn and remember. It has all the testing sequences in there. The only BS numbers you really need to know are the fuses i.e Bs 60898, Bs 1361, Bs 3036, Bs 61009 etc. Dont think I got asked a Bs question but that may be different now, with these new quals. Im sure if you search google, you will find what your looking for.

I would get on amazon and purchase Guidance note 3 and if you dont already have it the on site guide, both of which you will need and also help you get a good theory on what you need to be doing, read numerous times trough and the procedures will stick in your mind.

Thanks a lot Jay, yeah i think il purchase the GN3 never been told i needed it at college so thats the only reason i dont have it yet. I think the whole college system is wrong and so do a lot of the guys at my college, unless your in a job where you do testing a lot and a lot of domestic work its harder at college in my opinion.

as mentioned know your BS EN numbers, practise them and set yourself some questions ans time yourself in looking them up in the books, you will eventually be efficient at testing, live and dead, most including myself had to go through the nerves at the 1st live teting exercise, but it all passes so dont be too worried, the tutor will not let you do anything to harm yourself nor him for that matter, once confidence is gained and competance achieved you will be fine and all will make sense.Makes me laugh when i see agencies offering £12.50 for sparks with 2391,cheeky sods.

Its not only domestic testing that you will need to be comfortable with. You will also be testing 3 phase stuff aswell. If your college hasnt told you about GN3 when your doing the I & T course, then they are a really S£^t college. This is the main book you need and they should of told you this before you started. You also need the on site guide and the regs book. Take the GN3 book to bed with you, coress it, stroke it, whisper sweet nothings to it, get to know it inside and out, then you may have a chance.

Im not doing the I and T course yet Jay im an apprentice, although i do plan to do the 2391 in a couple of years so it will come in handy yet again it would seem, i have been taking my on site guide to work every day and i have been spending my spare time with it making sure it doesnt feel alone.

I know this is the wrong attitude and it stinks but nobody should take those jobs they should go on the dole because as soon as sparkys start taking £9 a hour all companies will bring there rates down as tyhey will think it is acceptable, i have all this to look forward to in the next few years ... GREAT.

This will be the least of your worries when you qualify. Just getting a job as a sparky at the minute is ny on impossible. And if you go on your own, its even harder, unless you have thousands to spend on advertising!!lol You never know, by the time your ready, the country might be abit more stable.......and spurs will win the league!!!!lol. (sorry mark)

got to agree except the spurs issue this is fiction

Im very lucky in the fact i have two gauranteed jobs when i qualify, im currently working at a caravan company (not ideal) but they want me to replace a retiring electrician when i qualify which could be an option but yes that is at £12 a hour, but the other option is for a company who used to subcontract for the company i used to work for (think id be on around the same wage but it would be the work i would prefer... commercial/industrial/new builds)

Football... 22 grown men running round a field kicking a pigs bladder. I used to play with odd shaped balls, league and union. "Do unto others as they would do unto you" only do it first. It's the maim of the game.
