We recently installed a PV system for which our quote included for a Fronius IG Plus inverter that has a facility to transmit to a remote display. When placing our order with the panel and inverter supplier their technical manager suggested that we upgrade the inverter to a Fronius IG TL as being a perfect match for the system. We took this advice but now find that this transformer less inverter does not have a remote facility. It does have a USB port to download information but the customer would have to climb into the loft to obtain this.
Can anyone suggest a means of providing a remote (or even a wired) display unit for this.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for your input BiggsSolar. We actually did purchase the Fronius Personal Display which we have previously used on the IG & the IG Plus inverters and tried to fit it to the new IG TL (transformer less) range available since July 2010. There is no PC card facility on this new range and speaking to Fronius technical support there is no release date for a suitable product. What we are looking for now is a third party system that will do the job in order to satisfy our customer.

Hi Spionkop, There is a Fronius Interface card avalable for the IG 3.6 TL. see below attachment& info

DIFRPDC
Fronius Personal Display Card Retrofit
£97.73

This can be obtained from hainesdistribution.co.uk at £93. Telephone 0333 800 2010.

You will have to check your IG 3.6 TL s/n just to confirm compatibility.

Regards Brian

I'm trialling this at the minute - DIY KYOTO — wattson Solar - available from Segen at a substantial discount. It measures what is being generated as well as what is being used so and you can dowload the info onto your pc - not sure if it will link with Google Power but sounds good in theory.

Hi KenHobbs, Sorry about that but the info I have from Fronius, is to infer all IG. Inverters, it does not mention a differential compatibility so its rather ambiguous!
Quote = Please note that the wireless display can only be used with IG inverters with serial number 14330071 and higher.

Many thanks for your information.Buying one of these could end up an expensive error.

Thank you all for your input.
We were talking to the Fronius technical representative at the recent Ecobuild exhibition who told us that a remote unit is being developed at the moment and reckons that it will be available in 'a couple of months???' This new unit will be more advanced than the existing personal display and will also be compatible with the existing IG inverters.
We will wait and see.
Regards
Bryn

Anyone had any news on a Fronius IG TL display yet? They're dragging their feet aren't they?

Solar Log seems a little expensive. Anyone found any other options?

I may be a bit of an idiot but one of my customers has sent me the csv data from his Fronius inverter and I can't convert it to Excel to make it readable - can anyone help?

Fronius have a personal display for this inverter ready to hit the shelves. A matter of weeks I am told.

Yes ,they already have one but its very pricy and as BiggsSolar has said they are launching a new version sometime in August I was informed last month. No price though.

Have you downloaded the Fronius free software? The software is called "Fronius Solar Access" You can display Day,week, month peak output in bar form & graphical. The output information is stored on a USB dongle you plug into the Inverter.Unplug it any time & insert into your PC or Laptop.I hope this helps

I spoke to fronius today. They suggested it would be released in September. Asked them about price they referred me to the distributor. Asked the distributor (five letters) and they didn't no anything about release date or price (unsuprisingly). Asked them to chase it up to allow me to price for work and to their credit they did within 5 minutes. Outcome is they're not expecting it until late November. Price TBC.
Thanks for all your help in getting to the answer.

Hi SRE,
Have you got installed the Fronius Solar,Access free software package installed on your computer?.There is a new version available ,just Google "Fronius Solar Access Software" & download the appropriate package.
I gather your client has given you their USB dongle that they have had plugged into their Inverter for a period of time?.The software enables you to view a Days,Weeks etc generation which you should be able to print out.
I hope this helps.

Fronius advised that they were bringing out a new Remote Personal Display that is compatible with the IG-TL Inverters in October 2011. Has any one heard anything about this or even bought one as I would be interested to know how they attach to the IG-TL series based on it not having a PC-Card slot.

Fronius are just about to release an external personal display box. I heard it should have been out this month. All abit late if you ask me after the latest news for feed in tariff. So the only real options are a web conected monitor (expensive and probably not what your customer is expecting) or a universal display. The universal displays, though can be frustrating and not that accurate. The nicest I've seen so far is this one Solo Energy Display - GEO - Green Energy Options but we don't sell it. It works off the optical pulse of the TGM......looks rather nice too.

HMMmm. It looks rather over priced, nearly £190 for the display unit and £97 for the retrofit wireless sender.
This equates to over 10% of the complete Inverter price!.

Hmm yeah but this monitor only works if you instal a henley block and a separate 1 way ccu.

They all do if you connect it to the correct feed but it does not measure the two feeds simultaneously.!

I have located a Solar monitor from a Chinese maunacturer that displays Solar generated power, consumed power and displays the difference in plus or minus power as the case may be.
It will display real time, daily, weekly or monthy. The price about £65 plus delivery. The one off trial also carries a postal charge of £40.
The downside is that there is a minimum order of 1000 off.! This sample does not have the £ legend but apparently the firm can include this possibly in place of the $ sign or as well as.I've not found anyone selling one of these in small quantities.

Why would it need a henley block and seperate CU?

Hey Biggy? At last i get a chance to repay you for the times you have given your knowledge to us (me included)

The Wattson requires two clamps, one around the house tails and one around the array ccu tails as it measures the wattage being used(power in use) and wattage being generated(generated power) and then gives a net total of power left available to use. Providing of course that the array is generating more than is being drawn a minus figure will show on the screen(net power).

If an rcbo is used at the customers ccu then the array clamp around the 4mm live cable out of the rcbo would measure the correct wattage but the ccu clamp would have a conflict as it is picking up wattage passing in two different directions.

Hope this helps Biggy.

Yeah, but it comes with two clamps. So you could put one clamp around the incoming tails to the house and one clamp around the cable to the inverter. Would this not do it?

I agree with Biggs here, except I would phrase it "and one clamp around the cable FROM the Inverter". The cable to the Inverter is DC.
There is no way that current will flow back up to the Inverter when demand is higher than the power being generated by the Solar panel system so you will measure the true power from the Solar system the method Biggs has suggested.

I assume that you have had dealings with the wattson.

Any clamp can only measure voltage/amperage/wattage flowing in one direction so there will be a conflict of mesasurements between the two clamps as they are basically in line and the sender unit is asking the clamps to do two different things.

I only know this because of extensive research and trial and error.

Basically i do a kettle test.

1. Clip clamp around customer consumer unit live tails and plug into 3 on sender unit.
2. Clip clamp around live tails to array consumer unit from henley block and plug into the fan on sender unit.
3. Click button on sender unit until the LED flashes 3 times.

Example: Generated Power 4000w
Net Power -3.0kw
Power in use 1000w

If you were now to click on a kettle there will be a direct correlation between all readings.

So if the kettle was a 3kw kettle the readings would show:
Generated power 4000w
Net power 0w
Power in use 4000w

So as long as your array is producing more than your house is using your net power should show a minus figure.

The Wattson never will never work properly unless it is done like this.
