remote door entry system

ive got to quote for a door entry/intercom system but ive never done one before, i hear myself saying those fatal words 'how hard can it be?', so, how hard can it be?

Its not difficult, generally a two wire system will be used, good manufactures are:

Airphone and BPT,more cost effective manufactures are videx and fermax.

Consideration should be given to cable length and if a particular cable is required, also is a door release systemrequired.

I used to install and fix door entry systems as part of a previous job

They are easy to wire up but i would wire it up on the kitchen table and get it working there first before fitting in it's final location as is easy to make a mistake and then wonder why as the instruction for some are not the best and easiest to follow as they talk about different ways of installing them with more than one location.

just been to see it and its a complex of student flats which has an existing system but the theyve opened a cafe in the basement and want an additional intercom addin on to exsisting

I did my first one back in the Summer and it was a doddle to be honest.

should't be problem, check that colourcodes same on existing unit to what you are going to add. last one i did was 7 core but only had 6 core but was fine in end.
