I have a seemingly quite simple customer requirement but am struggling to find any commercially available products to meet it.

I have a client with an outbuilding with its own TT supply, which runs amongst other things 2 freezers. They have asked if it possible to get an alert in the house if the power fails in the outbuilding as it has its own RCD and MCBs.

Seems simple enough doesn't it? A plug-in voltage monitor with battery back-up which transmits a signal in one of the licence-free bands, picked up by a plug-in receiver in the house. Can I find anything which fits the bill though?

I can come up with a number of ways I could build or modify something, but I really want a neat ready-made product at a sensible price which I can sell-on to the customer.

Any ideas?

Malcolm

You can used a 12v or 24v boxed power supply with 2.1A battery to back it up.
most supplies have fault relays incase of mains failure, which you can used to trigger a radio module or even a auto dialer. All fitted in the power supply

Hi Tazz

This would certainly work but its a sledge-hammer to crack a nut. Max range required is about 50m and ideally a simple plug-in receiver like a baby alarm.

Maplin do some useful 433 MHz Rx & Tx modules, but the design & build equates to time & money. Hence I was hoping that an enterprising firm had got to market before me!

What we use for shop freezer alarms, is the easyswitch wall switch transmitter, linked to the power supply. the actual alarm is the easyswitch plug in buzzer. So the shop keepers just plug it in the nearest socket and if the freezer looses power the plug in bleeper sounds upstairs. We use TLC for the easyswitch kits

So does the Easyswitch buzzer sound continuously if trigged by the switch transmitter? The blurb on TLC's site says they are designed to work with the remote PIRs.

I can see that I could employ the receiver module and plug a buzzer into this.

Cheers

Malcolm

You can mix and match any of their gear, its self learning code, If I remember right Malcolm, the buzzer gives 5 sec bursts, every minute, while the switch unit is active.
It not something we do all the time.
