On a job today, saw someone had run a twin from an immersion heater DP isolator, to a remote switch. So in essence, at the remote, they were only switching the live. I'v never done it like that, I always take L + N to the remote first, then to the immersion DP isolator.

Is there anything wrong with this method?

Thanks

Rich

Just out of interest, what make of single-pole switch were they using to switch 12 amps under load conditions? Also, was the remote really needed or did it simply save walking a few feet?

It was a 20A DP switch, and I think it was Tenby (don't hold me to that). Was in the kitchen which was quite faw away from the immersion so I could see the point. More curious about how they'd wired it than anything. Think I'll stick to my method of wiring them for the time being!

you can buy remote operated 13a plugs.
a set of 3 and a control box costs about ÂŁ25
I bought mine from CPC made by Brennenstuhl.
works fine so far, one switches on my immersion.
what I really want is a switch where a transmitter can be activated when coupled to a (immersun type) current controller for renewable energy.
any ideas?

Not exactly sure what you are trying to do here but solar immersion diverters such as ours (Intelligent Immersion model I2) and Immersun's modulate the power into the immersion so you don’t need to have a switch to turn them fully on or off. We do though offer an option where the load is turned on when the export reaches a certain threshold. With that you could trigger a remote switching device when say export >= immersion rating.
