thanks for posting... The program does go a bit over-board, implying that 100k drop in house value is down to the solar panels. But yes there is an underlying problem when selling/re-mortgaging and the buyout clauses are very high(to protect the investor income). in my view if you can't afford it or can't finance it then you shouldn't bother. the income stream from the free solar at 43.3 is now changing hands at a very high rate, which is why the buyout clauses are so high...

Somewhat amazed that this woman thought it would be a good idea to sign up for a 25 lease when she was about to sell the house! Especially when her only benefit would have been reduced electricity bills....I think there were far more issues around why she could not sell than the solar.

she might as well of bent over when the guys came round to do the job, if she's gonna take an _____ she might aswell do it properly

Rent a roof is a sham!!!

She saw a free lunch and jumped in without looking into it so its her own fault.

Plus whoever brought it would have the 45p tariff too surely? So its not bad for the purchaser!

Have to agree with this, who would do that when trying to sell their house! Not surprised she's been on the programme twice.

And as for 100k drop in price... well if the buy out was 20k, you could always buy it out and pay an extra 1k to get it taken down and put in a skip.... so can't see how it can be more than 21k!!!

Off to find the buyer's solicitors, gonna use them to get money off my next house... they are good negotiators to get 10k off the price of the house after it has come down alot, and get a 4kW system on the higher tariff for 10k too!

As for rent-a-roof... without going into a rant... not something I would do, only other third-party I'd want involved in my party is the mortgage company, and I wouldn't have them on it if I could!

From a customer's point of view, I think that rent-a-roof CAN be a very good option. The benefits of getting the free electricity are good and the green aspect is often ignored.

I am annoyed that so many installs being carried out currently are rent-a-roof schemes but I am happy that these installs are helping lower consumers reliance on expensive dirty energy.

Yes, it is better for the homeowner to buy them themselves but this is often not a good option for many people.

The nonsensical issue of a 100k drop in house price is simply a case of mortgage lenders and solicitors muddying the waters and it is something that will clearly get ironed out in the future.
