Hi Guys
Anybody experienced exploding LED lamps? A small second hand clothes shop where I do a bit of maintenance replaced all of their silver halogen spotlights (ES) with equivalent LED. After about 9 months, one by one they started to explode, showering the shop window with glass. They are marked with the CE label but no other markings or manufacturer's details exist. The shop owner was supplied with these from one of her suppliers and I am asking her for the details. These could be dangerous if anyone was standing too near to them.

haha, Anyone can stick a CE sticker on just about anything!! Sounds like a classic case of low cost , low quality copies direct from the back streets of China or the like!! Get your client to ask her supplier for a full refund, then go out and purchase manufacturer identified lamps, preferably those with a well known heritage.... Will obviously cost more, but they wont (hopefully) explode!!

Thanks. Certainly looks like that. I am trying to support the client in a claim for the supplier. Philips make a very similar product, probably a bit more expensive (I don't know was was paid for them) but this is definitely wrong.
I have taken all the others out, there was only one or two left.

i use modo by Megaman (GU10's but i'm sure they will have the lamp you are after). Slightly dearer, but i swear by them. Using them for a wee while now, including my own house, and unlike most LED lamps that aren't meant to fail for years, these ones seem to...well...erm...work?

Thanks for the info. Have looked on their website and looks like they have what she needs. The Philips Golfball ES/E27 should do the job.

There is CE marking and CE marking. One is China Export and is very similar to but not the same as the proper CE marking. I see lots of stuff with the China Export CE mark, the difference is in the spacing between the C and the E. I don't have the web site to hand but I am sure a bit of BINGing will find it.

It's not just China where the crap and copies come from. It's all over Asia, as well as some of the old eastern block central european countries....

I just looked on the official CE website. (CE logo) where you can buy self adhesive stickers from their online shop!. So I guess anybody can buy these.
