Hi, I am due to replace an 7.5 kw electric shower with a new 7.5 kw one. I will be checking the external ze, r1+r2, zs, testing the RCD.

Will also upgrade the main bonding from 6 mm. For a straight swap do I need to issue an electrical certificate and any other test that I will have to carry out.

What are the option if there is no bonding in the bathroom and you do not want to damage the tiles?

MCB 40 amp type B

Direct swaps like for like are classed maintainence, even a shower. provided your happy that the re install is at least up to the standard of the origonal install (providing that it was installed correctly in the first place, and no signs of heat dammage or overloadind) and you have not altered the loadings or upgraded the rating in amps of the circuit, a minor works cert would be my move but doesnt need Part P.

If your not sureabout the bonding just double check with a wandering lead r2, the local exposed metalwork. 0.05 ohm or below is ideal. but just check no plastick connectors have been put in the pipes if you get high readings. if so try to get a connection to the copper within the shower unit its self. that will cover that part of the pipe thats most important, the rest may be out of reach anyway!
