replacing wylex DB guts

hello there
i need to upgrade this DB to 17th edition.
its difficult to remove the casing (conduits going in, possible asbestos boarding behind) so i was wondering if i could just replace the guts for a split/split configuration or replacement main switch and seperate rcbo's
any ideas would be handy
cheers

What id do is strip out the guts use the lid as a template to mark the back of a new CDU , cut the holes where you have marked for the new cdu screw and fix the lid to the back of the new CDU and then drill through the origianl fixing holes in the lid ,extend all the cables fix the new board and lid to the old unit and wire this way you have a new CDU cables are extended in the steel box so protected and you have a decnet CDU no trying to make one may be easier and most importantly you dont desturbe the asbestos

Another way, is how i got over the problem at a friends flat over here. Only he had 2 Wylex CUs that needed combining. But no big deal to just cover the one flush CU back box.
