Hi, I am a JIB Approved electrician with my 17th edition and 2391 an 25 years experience.

Am I able to start testing proprties or electrical installations and issue my own certificate i.e Ethos 7935, 7933 for example .

Or do I still need to be accredited to the NIC or ECA etc. What is the legal position ?

Thanks

i have asked that question and have been told you dont need to be with nic etc

think you have to if you use their sheets to do EIC etc on

i got in touch with ECA and they told me the fee they charge depends on your turn over !

Periodic Inspection Reports (I guess thats what you mean) don't fall under the part p scope so anyone who is "competent" can do them without being a member of a body, it's your --- on the line in the end.

Insurances are a must - public liability and proffessional indemnity.

Only drawback is a lot of letting agents, insurers, landlords etc will ask for NIC/ECA approved contractors.

Thanks for the answers, they are what I considered to be the case, as it is drummed into us all about being the competent person.

Any way that has clarified a few things for me. Thank you.

Hello to you to Kung, as you are aware this is my first post as I have just been a watcher until this point, good website.
