ELLO ALL.. kinda stuck.... if anyone care to help me out?

Q is.....
two resistors of X ohms and 4 ohms are connacted in series to 20 V d.c supply.
if the p.d across the X ohms is 4V, determine....

1,the p.d across the 4 ohm resistor..
2,the current taken by the supply..
3,the value of resistor X..
4,the power taken by the circuit..


anyone intrested in explaining this poo out to me?

1. total V d.c supply minus p.d across X ohms equals ______ v
2. I'd expect the value of X to be calculated before you can provide a current value. So get 1. correct first then we'll move on.

i workeed it this way. vd across 4ohm is 20-4=16, threefore I = V/R = 16/4 = 4A. then X=V/I= 4/4 =1ohm. then power dissipates P=Vx I =80watts.

2, I=U/R=16/4=4A

3,Rx=U/I+4/4=1R

4,P=I square x R=4 square x 5 =80W

Since English is not my first language, I had difficulties in understanding some stuff in EAL level 2 stuff.. So i just ask if anyone can explain how to sort this things out, and someone helped.. now I perfectly understand how to do circuits now.. So i worked out rest of the Q i need to do. this is not a homework i just need bit of.. you know bit of spark...... Simple as that..

when you do parallel, reciprocals is easier then product over sum methed ah?

Product over sum only works for two in parallel, recip method works for any situation
