reverse a single phase AC motor

how would I work out the size of capacitor I need to reverse a single phase motor.
Not sure of the size etc as not been out to see it yet all I know is the customer has a fan they want to reverse its in a machine so don't think a fan controller would suit.

Capacitor doesn't dictate the direction of the motor, it just helps it to start!

Reverse the polarity. to do it electronicly uses a few electrical components

if you can get at the terminals of the windings, reverse the start winding.

You can reverse either the start winding wires or the run winding wires, either option will give you reverse running, just don't reverse both windings.

some motors are marked z1 & z2 these are the start windings and just need to swap them over, if no markings measure the resistance on the 2 sets of windings and the higher of the two will be the start.

If you can't get at the windings as they are sometimes inside the motor, you could always take the impellor off and refit it the opposite way around.
